Speech Introduction of John A. Gale - Option 2

John Gale was appointed as Secretary of State by Governor Johanns in December 2000, and has since won election to the office four times. Secretary Gale will be retiring on December 31, 2018, completing 18 years of public office. His office motto has been “Prompt, Personal and Professional Service.”

While secretary, John has significantly improved our state’s election system, helped insure statewide online public services, and streamlined state business services. His duties include being chief election officer, chief protocol officer, state records officer, business services officer, and keeper of the Great Seal. He also serves on five state regulatory boards or commissions, including the Real Estate Commission and the Pardons Board.

A fifth-generation Nebraskan, John grew up in Omaha, and has lived in Omaha, Lincoln, Ogallala, and North Platte. He practiced law in North Platte for 29 years before serving as secretary of state. His background also includes service as a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Roman Hruska in Washington, D.C., and as an assistant U.S. attorney in Omaha and Lincoln. Secretary Gale has three children, and five grandchildren.
