About 300 participants learned about emerging election administration issues at the Midwest Election Officials Conference held in Overland Park, Kan. Secretary Gale and his counterparts in Missouri, Iowa and Kansas sponsored the conference. In conjunction with the meeting, a news conference was held regarding newly-enacted federal legislation designed to eliminate obstacles to voting for military personnel and overseas civilians. Secretary Gale is pictured addressing the news conference, while Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan and Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh are behind him. The news conference was held at the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Mo.
