Syracuse Middle School honors veterans
Syracuse, NE
November 2012
More than 200 schools took part in the November 2012 Honor a Veteran Program sponsored by the Secretary of State’s office. Schools across Nebraska are encouraged to host an event that honors local veterans in their community.
There are templates available on the Secretary of State’s website for hosting a program, as well information on how to find an available speaker.
Fourth graders at Syracuse Middle School host a program to honor veterans every November. Each fourth grader invites a veteran in the community to the program. They also invite members of the Legion and the Auxiliary to take part as well.
As part of that day, fourth graders are also asked to attend a Veteran’s Museum, which is organized by women in the local auxiliary. The display includes all the different wars that the U.S. military has participated in over the past century. It also features local military members from the area and features artifacts from their service.
