Wreaths Across America is a national program which honors America’s veterans. The program is 15 years old. This is the third year that Lincoln has taken part. Wreaths are sent to each State Capitol to honor veterans during the holiday season. Additional wreaths are placed on the headstones of military veterans at local cemeteries, including Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln.
Secretary of State John Gale was asked to accept the wreath given this year, on behalf of Governor Dave Heineman. He also offered his remarks and read the proclamation making December 9-15, 2012 Wreaths Across America Week.
Wreath presented at State Capitol features flags of the military branches as well as the POW/MIA flag.
