Senator Hagel Addresses International Visitor Program Conference

Lincoln, NE -- U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel plans to address the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV) Midwest Regional meeting on Saturday morning, August 9th, 2003.

Senator Hagelis working closely with Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale, to help build the CIV program in Nebraska and to expand international contacts with State leaders from all walks of life. Secretary Gale will introduce Senator Hagelat the Midwest Regional meeting.

Lincoln was chosen as host city for the conference because of its outstanding program the City has developed for international guests and dignitaries. Over 150 foreign guests have visited Lincoln, already, this year. Grand Island and Omaha also have active CIV Programs. Secretary Gale said, "It is a special honor to have Senator Hagel speak to this Conference. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and a national leader in foreign policy, Senator Hagel understands the importance of positive personal relations between people in the world. His presence emphasizes the importance of this Program."

The National Council for International Visitors is a national network of program agencies and 96 community-based organizations. These non-profit groups design and implement professional programs and provide cultural activities and home hospitality opportunities for foreign leaders, specialists, and international scholars.

Gale added, "The purpose of the NCIV is to make host city businesses and political leaders more aware of citizen diplomacy, as well as to give visitors from other countries the opportunity to gain a broader perspective of all aspects of day to day life in those host cities."
