Candidate Filing Periods for 2012

Primary Election

Effective Aug. 27, 2011, here are the candidate filing periods for the May 15, 2012, statewide primary election:

  • The filing period for incumbents shall be between Dec. 1, 2011, and Feb. 15, 2012. No incumbent who resigns from elective office prior to the expiration of his or her term shall file for any office after Feb. 15, 2012. An incumbent is anyone who holds elective office, including a person who holds one elective office and wants to file for another elective office.
  • The filing period for non-incumbents shall be between Dec. 1, 2011, and March 1, 2012.

General Election

Effective Aug. 27, 2011, here are the candidate filing periods for the Nov. 6, 2012, statewide general election:

  • The filing period for incumbents shall be between Dec. 1, 2011, and July 15, 2012. This is for the following offices: public power districts (grossing less than $40 million), reclamation districts, educational service units, county weed boards, township officers, village boards and Class II school districts. No incumbent who resigns from elective office prior to the expiration of his or her term shall file for any office after July 15, 2012. An incumbent is anyone who holds elective office, including a person who holds one elective office and wants to file for another elective office.
  • The filing period for non-incumbents shall be between Dec. 1, 2011, and Aug. 1, 2012. This is for the following offices: public power districts (grossing less than $40 million), reclamation districts, educational service units, county weed boards, township officers, village boards and Class II school districts.
