December 1, 2003 Last day for clerks and commissioners to notify subdivisions of filing deadlines for statewide primary. (32-404)

December 18, 2003 Effective date for an ordinance providing for nomination and election on a partisan ballot for city, village, and school offices which are normally non-partisan. (32-557)

JANUARY 2004

January 5, 2004 Last day for political subdivisions to notify Secretary of State, clerks or commissioners of offices to be filled, terms, vacancies, votes cast and filing deadlines for each office. (32-601, 32-404)

Note: Clerks and commissioners are required to publish the information at least 15 days prior to the filing deadline.

January 12, 2004 First day to accept absentee ballot request for statewide primary. (32-941)

FEBRUARY 2004

February 1, 2004 Deadline to publish information on offices to be filled, terms vacancies votes cast and filing deadlines. (32-601)

February 2, 2004 Deadline for new political party to submit petitionswith Secretary of State to qualify for primary election. (32-716)

Deadline for political parties to fix precinct representation to county convention. If fail to do so, default number is two per precinct. (32-708)

Deadline for chair of county central committee to submit names of election officials to clerks (not election commissioners). If fail to submit list may make appointments after this date.(32-230)

APRIL 2004

April 5. 2004 Deadline for making absentee ballots and applications available. Publication of application required after ballots are available. (32-808)

Deadline for making lists of registered voters available to state and county parties. List made valuable upon request and free of charge. (32-330)

First day to distribute sample ballots if not seen by voters. Amount not to exceed 10% of votescast in previous general election. (32-804)

No corrections to ballot required after this date unless by court order. (32-819)

April 9, 2004 Deadline for counties with election commissioners to appoint judges, clerks and inspectors for statewide primary if necessary. (32-221)

April 10 through April 30, 2004 Satellite registrations offices may be open at least one day during this period. May be a satellite registration office in each incorporated city or village.
